Personal Training – How To Release Upper Back Tension
New Level Personal Trainer Callum Pitts from Yarraville demonstrates how using a Foam Roller before your session can release upper back tension and increase mobility. Upper back tension is common amongst people that sit at a desk all day at work. If the core muscles and upper back muscles such as the rhomboids are not developed enough, being seated for 8 hours 5 days a week can lead to postural issues.
New Level Personal Training clients with back tightness have been using the Foam Roller with their trainer to release some of the tension. As demonstrated in the video clip above the Foam Roller is simply positioned around the Thoracic Spine (upper-middle back) while lying on your back on the floor with your knees up and hands behind your head supporting your neck.
By simply taking a deep breath in and then exhaling slowly as you carefully stretch your back by leaning back over the Foam Roller you should feel a nice stretch and the muscles release through the problem area.
The Foam Roller is also used by the New Level trainers for releasing muscle tightness in the calves and the ITB. These areas are common problem spots for runners and the Foam Roller helps fix and prevent further tightness and possible injury.
