A Personal Training Expert Needs A Personal Trainer…
Have you ever heard these sayings?
‘Walk your talk’ or ‘Practice what you preach’
In my opinion, personal trainers really have to do just that. If we don’t, we will be found
out immediately. To say, “we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover” is B.S. because let’s
face it….we do! Our clients certainly do when they first meet us.
Personal trainers are judged by not what we just say but also by what we actually do.
Would you train with a personal trainer who sat on the couch and ate chips all day and
did next-to-no exercise? I think not!
But hang on…isn’t there doctors out there who give us life-saving prescriptions, yet
look as though they should be the ones taking the prescriptions to save their own life?
Personally, I only deal with fit looking doctors because they (at least) look as though
they get it. They look as though they practice what they preach.
BUT, I also believe that in order to practice what we preach we all need help. If we say
personal training is a great, life-changing investment in yourself, then I ask all personal
trainer out there the following question….
“Do you have a personal trainer yourself?… or are you too good for one?”
As a personal trainer for the last 15+ years, I thought I never needed one…until I got one.
A trainer gave me that extra push. Whether it’s the 8th, 9th or 10th rep while doing weights
or those extra 50 punches on the focus mitts during a boxing session, it provided me with
that extra little bit that I could never do myself.
Every New Level Personal Trainer is required to have a trainer. This is part of our system,
a part of our manuals and a condition of our employment. That’s how it just is!
For me, I love the fact that I have my 2 PT sessions a week are booked well in advance in
my Outlook Calendar. I’ve coded them green to indicate a ‘Personal Appointment’ and I
schedule all my other tasks around these times so that nothing interferes with my ‘me time’.
If you are reading this and you are thinking ‘do I call?’, I would call. You’ll be surprised how
accountable you’ll become and how consistent your workouts will be.
We’ll keep you motivated!
